Mediocre horror writer Stephen King has made it clear that he is not a fan of Twilight. In a new interview the writer commented on the teen vamp serialist, Stephanie Meyer, by saying she “can’t write worth a darn”, apparently.
In an interview with USA Weekend while promoting his new book, Stephen King Goes to the Movies, the best-selling novelist said Meyer can’t hold a candle to J.K. Rowling.
King said: “The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good.”
Curbing his attack slightly King explained while he’s no fan of Meyer’s writing, he does appreciate her storytelling for her target audience.
“People are attracted by the stories, by the pace and in the case of Stephenie Meyer, it’s very clear that she’s writing to a whole generation of girls and opening up kind of a safe joining of love and sex in those books.
“A lot of the physical side of it is conveyed in things like the vampire will touch her forearm or run a hand over skin, and she just flushes all hot and cold. And for girls, that’s a shorthand for all the feelings that they’re not ready to deal with yet.”
King is renowned for not mincing his words about fellow authors. He even highlights some in his book, On Writing.
In the same interview, King also called bestseller Dean Koontz “sometimes … just awful” and James Patterson “a terrible writer” who is “very, very successful.”
What do you think? Which one is the best?

Never been a fan of the Twilight series, even the movies. Vampires don’t sparkle.

I like Anne Rice’s version of vampires better than Meyer’s. How about you?

Vampires aren’t interesting to me. You know, I prefer stories which are nearer to the real life.

Omg thank you!!! Why would something known to be bloodthirsty and badass in fiction be full of glitters? Why oh why?😭😭😭😭😂😂😂 just terrible. That did it for me with the whole twilight franchise

Tinkerbell and Nosferatu happened, I think. HAHAHA!
But seriously, vamps are supposed to be creepy and bloodthirsty and intriguingly mysterious. I’m all for Anne Rice’s version of them.

I don’t mind James Patterson and dean koontz. And I liked the earlier Harry porters works and felt it took a lot to come up with not just the characters and their dialogue, but the ambience, scenes, background etc. so yeah JK Rowling is something special.

Well, there’s a reason Stephen King is my favorite psychological-horror writer, and him saying these things is one of them 😀

I didn’t realize King was a narcissist and a man who knows how young girls felt. How interesting.

It is unfair to put down other writers. Just my personal opinion.

I think all art is subjective. Having written that, I’ve never been overly fond of the Twilight series. I try not to be too critical of writers. I’ll leave it at that. Happy Sunday.

I actually really like James Patterson, though I find it slightly suspicious that he’s able to write so many books so quickly and that he co-writes them (makes me wonder if he just slaps his name on someone else’s writing). I also love Harlan Coben, who is my favorite writer. I’ve never read the Twilight books, though I’ve never really been interested in them.
I’ve read a couple of Stephen King’s short stories (Chattering Teeth, The Library Police), but never really finished any of his longer works. I do enjoy his ideas though and have seen many shows and movies based off of his books.

I enjoy King, Rowland, Koontz and Patterson books, all for different reasons. However, I have never read the Twilight series so can’t comment on her writing.

I actually like both.. Rowlings world was a totally fun on and a magical world.. Meyers was more of vampires and werewolves..which was interesting too.. I liked both.. At the end both were entertaining novels which churned out amazing movies..
